OUTLINE

Lectures and Clincheck Reviews throughout the three days and a half day in clinic, observing patients as they come into the practice for Invisalign aligner treatment (consult, records, recall, to retainer checks).

TRAVEL

Doctors should fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on the evening of Wednesday, September 11, 2019, and may depart in the evening on Saturday, September 14, 2019

Accommodations should be booked individually and are not included in the course fee. There are three hotels within walking distance of Dr. Tai’s office. Should it be raining, a very short (3 minute) taxi ride may be necessary.

Day 1 - Thursday, September 12, 2019

9:00 am - 10:15 am: Session A: Clinic Tour & Philosophy towards Invisalign treatment

 

Dr. Sandra Tai will discuss her general practice philosophy. Case selection criteria - the cases that fit into the Invisalign ‘sweet spot’ will be highlighted. The new patient experience will be outlined. Communication and patient education are the keys to acceptance of Invisalign as a treatment modality.  Dr. Tai will share how she presents Invisalign treatment to patients at the new patient consultation appointment. The paradigm shift required in treatment planning for Invisalign cases will be discussed.

10:15 am - 10:30 am: Coffee Break

10:30 am - 12:00 pm: Session B: Treatment Planning, Case Review & Case Discussion

 

Invisalign cases that are presented by attending doctors will be reviewed. Orthodontic records, treatment plans, and ClinCheck set-ups will be reviewed and discussed. Modifications for existing ClinChecks will be requested online.

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch

1:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Clinical Session with orthodontic patients in the clinic.

5:00 pm onwards: Dinner (Free time)

Day 2 – Friday, September 13, 2019

8:30 am - 12:00 pm: Visit University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry to observe tour dental faculty and observe the graduate orthodontic clinic

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Session C: Attachments, IPR, Advanced ClinCheck Techniques, Staging Tooth Movements, Making Difficult Tooth Movements in ClinCheck clinically predictable

*This session will include anticipating advanced tooth movements and designing modifications in ClinCheck to ensure that tooth movements will be clinically predictable. There will be a brief discussion on various types of attachments and their functions, as well as IPR technique. A clinical checklist for ensuring the treatment is on track when the patient comes in for appointments will be reviewed.

3:00 pm - 3:15 pm: Coffee Break

3:15 pm - 5:00 pm: Session D: Trouble Shooting and Finishing Invisalign Cases

This session will discuss what steps to take if the treatment does not ‘track’ as planned. Common undesirable tooth movements with Invisalign include unwanted intrusion of lateral incisors, failure of teeth to de-rotate and development of a buccal open bite. Dr. Tai will discuss how to handle and troubleshoot these clinical scenarios. She will also share some tips for finishing cases including hands-on practice with detailing pliers.

 

Day 3 – Saturday, September 14, 2019

9:00 am - 12:00 pm: Session E: Premolar Extraction Treatments with Invisalign

In this session, Dr. Tai will discuss premolar extraction treatment with Invisalign. Case selection, staging tooth movements for extraction cases, managing root inclinations and complications for extraction cases will be discussed.

1:00 pm - 1:30 pm: Certificate presentation

1:30 pm - 3:30 pm: Session F: Treatment Planning, Case Review & Case Discussion

Invisalign cases that are presented by attending doctors will be reviewed. Orthodontic records, treatment plans, and ClinCheck set-ups will be reviewed and discussed. Modifications for existing ClinChecks will be requested online.

3:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Session G: Summary and Closing
